Belaga is a small town and a minor government administrative centre on the upper reaches of the Rejang.
Belaga grew up in the early 1900s when a few Chinese traders set up shops and started trading with the upriver people, supplying essentials such as kerosene, salt and cooking utensils.
Belaga is a good place to start exploring the Sarawak's interior and there are many Kayan and Kenyah longhouses along the Balui and Belaga rivers. When visiting longhouses in the Belaga area, it is best to hire a boat and a guide. Please contact Belaga District Office (+6086-461339) for local guides or advice.
Foreign tourists need to apply a permit at Kapit Resident's Office to travel to Belaga. Click here for further details.
